What is Montessori?
The Montessori approach recognizes that young children have an innate desire to explore and make sense of the world around them. They learn best through hands-on, self-directed experiences in a carefully prepared environment, supported by a knowledgeable and compassionate Montessori-certified Teacher. This environment allows children to build confidence, concentration, and a lifelong love of learning.
Montessori Classrooms
Classrooms in Montessori schools are intentionally designed to spark curiosity, reduce unnecessary frustration, and encourage feelings of joy when children experience success. Students begin by working with concrete, hands-on materials and gradually progress to more abstract concepts as their knowledge and skills grow.
In a Montessori classroom, the overall goal is to nurture each child’s natural desire for exploration, independence, and understanding.
Benefits of Montessori
Self-Worth
Children develop a strong sense of self-worth; they learn that they are important and that their ideas have value.
Increased Confidence
Children gain the confidence needed to master new skills, solve challenging problems, and achieve success.
Leadership
Children learn how to lead while also understanding how to collaborate and be effective members of a team.
Self-Instruction
With self-correcting Montessori materials, children learn from their own mistakes by receiving immediate feedback based on the choices they make.
Increased Aptitude
According to research, five-year-old Montessori students are “significantly better prepared for elementary school in reading and math skills than non-Montessori children,” and they perform better in their “ability to adapt to changing and more complex problems.
Community Awareness
Children learn how to live and work within a community alongside people who have different strengths and weaknesses.
